NT Waves

The IMOS Coastal Wave Buoys NT sub-facility is based at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).  A fleet of moored Sofar Spotter wave buoys are deployed with the support of IMOS, industry, Traditional Owners and research projects. The selected sites also include high accuracy temperature loggers with data to be available through AIMS Sea Water Temperature Observing System. Sites have been selected to complement the existing needs of local communities, research and industry as well as to address gaps in the Australian wave buoy network.

The Maningrida deployment site is located within the Djelk Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). Monitoring activities at this site are undertaken in collaboration with the Bawinanga Rangers and with the permission of Traditional Owners of the sea country surrounding the monitoring location, whose ongoing support and stewardship are essential to the successful operation of the observing infrastructure.

The sub-facility is led by Dr Bozena Wojtasiewicz with technical support provided by Simon Harries and the AIMS Oceanography Technical Team.
