AusWaves has a number of features that enable our data to be visualised and downloaded.

On the landing page, you will, be default, see all available moored wave buoys around Australia. You can adjust this view to see only a specific region by toggling various regions on or off in the lower left. Additionally, we have a number of sites in our database that are currently not active – the data from these buoys can be downloaded by toggling on the ‘historical data’ and then selecting a buoy of interest.

In addition to the map view, the data panels display the timeseries data from our wave buoys. Within the data panel, you can hover over the displayed data to see the details of the individual data points.

You can also visualise different data sets that are availalble using the ‘Data selection’ menu. The ‘Data selection’ menu only shows options for data types available at each specific site, and not all data types are available at every site.

Once new data streams are selected, the data panels will update to display all selected data.

For a more detailed look at individual parameter timeseries data, you can use the ‘expanded’ view. To toggle this view, click the ‘expand’ button.

This view will break out the timeseries plotted into individual panels. The data that is displayed is controlled by the ‘data selection’ menu.

Lastly, the expanded view also shows a mooring schematic for the selected site and, for sites with spectral data, a GIF of the 2D spectra over the last 5 hours.

We display 5 days of data by default. However, the date range can be adjusted by using the calendar function in the upper right of the data panel. The date range can be adjusted by either typing dates of interest (DD/MM/YYYY) or by selecting a start/stop date from the calendar drop down. To check data availability for a site, check out our data availability page.

To download data, simply click the ‘Export Data’ button. This will generate a CSV containing all available data for the date range that is selected.
